11/20/01 Mad Cow Disease

| More

We would like to invite you to a demonstration in front of the Dolac market on Tuesday, November 20 at 12:00 A.M., where we will show our concern about the recent cases of mad cow disease (BSE) in Slovenia and the possible consequences for Croatia.

The mad cow disease (BSE) is not a madness that has been created by cows, but a madness that has been created by humankind. Because of human greed, cows are being fed with animal remains, oil derivatives and similar leftovers. It created this disease, which ultimately ends up in human food. No wonder cows get this serious illness if you consider that they are being treated like machines, exploited until exhaustion and live a miserable life that will only end in the slaughterhouse. This mad cow disease causes huge economic and ecological damage. Because of the mad cow disease, many people start to see the real madness behind factory-farming. They express their support for an ethical treatment for animals, their concern about human health and the planet we live on, by joining a healthier way of living: vegetarianism.

By organizing the demonstration in front of the Dolac market - where most of the meat stores in Zagreb are situated - we want people to start thinking about a meatless diet, about life without fears of mad cow disease, cholesterol, arteriosclerosis, and many other illnesses that are directly related to a meat-based diet. We want to make them think about natural resources and hungry people all over the world, about the ecology, water, forests, and our planet in general.

We will encourage people to become more compassionate, remind them of ethics and show them the harsh reality of the unnecessary torture and slaughter of animals.
