August 22 marks World Plant Milk Day. So far, several million people around the world have taken part in marking this day to encourage the transition from animal milk and dairy consumption to that of plant origin. On this occasion, Croatian choreographer and director Igor Barberić and food bloggers Nataša Rajčević and Marie Wasler invite everyone to join them on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11 and visit the educational stand of Animal Friends Croatia on Zagreb's Ban Jelačić Square. Visitors will be able to try first-hand, from our famous vegans, some delicious and healthy vegan dishes and desserts such as burek and cakes, try frappes with plant-based milk and learn about the benefits of herbal alternatives to dairy products for animals, the environment and one's own health.
They will have the opportunity to become acquainted with different flavors of plant-based milk and other plant-based products, learn how to make various dishes and desserts with plant-based milk at home, all kinds of vegetable cheeses, cream and whipped cream, and get vegan cookbooks and recipes along the way. “The benefits of plant-based milk are numerous, both for health and for the environment as well as stopping climate change. Most importantly, choosing plant-based milk avoids the mass exploitation of cows for the purpose of taking milk intended for calves and their suffering and death", say Animal Friends Croatia, emphasizing that drinking cow's milk is completely unnatural.
Namely, man is the only species that drinks the milk of other species and the only one that drinks it in adulthood. The dairy industry causes immeasurable stress and pain to cows, and their calves are taken away and end up in slaughterhouses. In addition, intensive industrial animal husbandry is a leading cause of climate change and produces more greenhouse gases than all world transport. Raising cows for milk causes a large consumption of drinking water and other resources and is a major polluter of the environment.
Research confirms that eliminating animal products from the diet helps prevent hypertension, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers. Halting the consumption of dairy products brings many health benefits - it increases energy, reduces bloating, improves digestion, clears up the skin, reduces asthma symptoms and reduces inflammation. "65% of the world's population is lactose intolerant. By consuming plant-based dairy products, we can enjoy our favorite dishes and flavors without giving them up,” said Animal Friends Croatia.
Plant milk is increasingly available on the market today and is intended for everyone. It can be found on the shelves of almost all stores, and the choice of types and flavors is really large. In addition to milk, other plant products are available on the market such as yogurt, cheese, cream, ice cream, pudding, whipped cream, etc. All are made from soy, rice, almonds, hazelnuts, coconut, oats, spelt, cashews and other cereals and nuts.
With attractive visuals on billboards, Igor Barberić, Nataša Rajčević and Marie Wasler invite you to sustainable living and to visit the 13th ZeGeVege Festival of Sustainable Living, which will be held on September 3 and 4, 2021 on Ban Jelačić Square. With its large, exclusively vegan offer and numerous tastings and promotional sales, ZeGeVege will attract many citizens from all over Croatia and from abroad.
