Workshop Topics:
How Vegans Can Resolve and Prevent Conflicts
Conflicts among vegan activists and within vegan organizations come at a high cost. They drain significant resources from the movement and lead to feelings of betrayal, demoralization, and fear of criticism among vegans. These conflicts are one of the biggest obstacles to the success of vegan organizations and the broader movement.
In this workshop, Melanie Joy explains the causes and consequences of conflicts, as well as practical ways to prevent and resolve them. Participants will engage in experiential exercises to adopt and practice new skills and learn to apply various tools. Melanie will also moderate discussions to help resolve specific conflicts participants face. This unique and empowering workshop can help vegans build more resilient organizations and a more influential movement.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills to Enhance the Impact and Resilience of Vegan Organizations and Activists
In this workshop, Melanie Joy explains key principles and provides practical tools for developing effective communication and interpersonal skills. You'll learn how to discuss any topic, no matter how emotionally challenging, in an effective and compassionate way. You’ll also learn how to approach differences in a manner that deepens understanding and leads to more thoughtful and strategic decisions. With clear explanations, Melanie will help you develop these and other skills that can significantly boost the productivity and impact of your team, leadership, and/or individual advocacy efforts.

About Beyond Carnism and the Center for Effective Vegan Advocacy
Beyond Carnism is an international nonprofit organization based in the U.S., dedicated to exposing and transforming carnism—the invisible belief system that conditions people to eat certain animals.
Beyond Carnism believes that significant social change requires a two-pronged strategic approach, which involves weakening the oppressive system (carnism) and strengthening the system that opposes it (veganism).
The Center for Effective Vegan Advocacy (CEVA) works to increase the impact of vegan advocacy globally by improving the effectiveness of vegan activists and organizations and fostering a more unified and resilient vegan movement.
