06/30/2022 Urgent Rescue of All Dogs from Žarkovica

After volunteers from the unregistered shelter in Žarkovica reported the terrible condition of the dogs they were helping, the veterinary inspection came under surveillance and ruled that all 200 dogs must be relocated within 15 days, which expires this week. Animal protection associations and citizens are saddened by the information that arrives every day about the condition of dogs from Žarkovica, where there are no conditions for caring for dogs. According to the records, of the listed dogs, close to 50% of them are not neutered, and almost 40% need treatment. Only 40% of dogs are microchipped. The city of Dubrovnik has not fulfilled its legal obligations for decades, and on the other hand, dogs in Žarkovica have been inadequately cared for and have not been provided with the necessary veterinary care. Dogs are now receiving veterinary care and are being prepared for adoption. Volunteers invite everyone to visit adopt-zarkovica.eu, spread their touching stories, and invite anyone who can apply for foster care or temporary accommodation. The City of Dubrovnik has taken responsibility and care for all dogs up to adoption and will help with treatment with foster parents.

06/21/2022 Tarik Filipović against abandoning animals before the holidays

Tarik Filipović, a favorite face on television screens and a host of the Croatian version of the television game show ''Who Wants to Be a Millionaire'', is this year's face of the campaign "Family to the seaside, dog to the street?!" by which the Animal Friends Croatia has been educating for 20 years in a row about responsible care for dogs and cats. In front of the lens of photographer Domagoj Kunić, who also adopted a dog rescued from the earthquake, the famous actor and TV presenter posed with Melinda and Smoki, irresistible dogs from the Shelter for abandoned animals in the City of Zagreb - Dumovec. The message in the visuals: "Spay and neuter, do not philosophize! Because abandoned animals do not fall from the sky." indicates the importance of spaying and neutering in preventing the abandonment of unwanted puppies and kittens. The presentation of the campaign will take place on Friday, June 24, 2022, at noon in the popular Zagreb Cat Caffe (Kušlanova 6). There, Tarik, along with visuals with Melinda and Smoki, will be surrounded by 14 cats that have been adopted from the street or shelters in this only cat cafe in Croatia.

06/17/2022 Alarming situation with dogs in Dubrovnik

The situation in Dubrovnik regarding dogs in Žarkovica is alarming. The State Inspectorate has issued a decision requiring all dogs to be adopted within 15 days. This is an extremely short deadline for this many dogs to be adopted, so everyone who can help is very much welcomed. There are currently no available places for dogs in shelters in Croatia, and this is not a good solution for dogs, so you can help with temporary accommodation or providing a temporary home. Many dogs seek care and are under therapies which they need to take until their recovery. These dogs need peace and security at someone’s warm home. You can help by adopting, providing a temporary or permanent home and/or sharing information about the dogs that need to be adopted. All dogs are listed on www.adopt-zarkovica.eu, and all information about dogs is also available in English.

06/09/2022 New York Lawmakers Pass Bill To Ban Puppy Mills

New York is closer to banning the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits in retail stores. Earlier this month, Puppy Mill Pipeline Bill passed the New York State Assembly and Senate. It now moves to Governor. If she signs the bill into law, pet stores in New York will no longer be able to sell animals. Instead, they can collaborate with organizations to showcase those that need adoption. According to ASPCA, many New York pet stores work with harmful commercial breeding operations. While they market puppies as coming from responsible breeders, the ASPCA says “this is far from the truth.” In puppy mills, dogs are kept in crowded cages, do not have access to adequate food, veterinary care, etc and often experience severe health issues. The meat and agribusiness lobbies are spreading many hoaxes about cultured meat. Find out what they are and help us spread the truth.
